On March 22, my family from Missouri (Dad's side) and I ate at THE most disgusting place ever called Rio Rio. It was around lunch time as we were walking down the river walk in San Antonio and took a vote on what to eat and majority ruled in favor of Mexican food. San Antonio... Mexican food... can't go wrong, right? WRONG!!! Ugh it was the nastiest food ever. NOT ONLY was the food nasty, but the smell of the restraunt itself was as if a sewer plant pipe busted right next to us. Every place was packed on the river walk and we had a group of about 16 people, so when we came across this restraunt... no body was there so we decided to try it out. Now we know why NO ONE was there. Pure grossness! All I wanted was a virgin pina colada and some quesadillas, and it turned out I had a water that tasted like straight up river water, and some dry chicken, no flavor quesadillas! I'm done venting now...on to the fun part about the trip!
After eating lunch, Ryan E, Ryan M (brother) and I continued to walk down the river walk and check out things and they wanted to find a cool little pub to hang out and have a few drinks so I tagged along. We stopped at a place called Dirty Nelly's Pub and inside they had a funny piano man with a big fan club. They got there drinks and we sat outside so I could continue to take pictures of random things while they had there beer tasting. After Rio Rio, it was very nice being somewhere with a nice waiter and friendly staff!! As the drinking went on and I had now a sun burning my forehead I asked if we could go somewhere else and they chugged there beers and closed there tabs. As we were walking out my brother says "OH YEAH YOU CAN DRINK WHILE WALKING ON THE RIVER WALK". At first I'm like "YES! they can drink and I can walk and go into shops...perfect". We asked a local where people were getting the beers and he told us the liqour store down town and gave us directions. So we went on and walked to the liqour store and they got there tall boys and dirty looks from old women on the River Walk and 5 min later (being preggo), I asked if we could go back to the hotel because my feet were killing me. Luckily our hotel had a rooftop pool where we all hung out until dinner where we ate at Salt Grass.... on the River Walk (we weren't taking chances again and we were hunnnnn-gry)! After dinner we went on a boat ride at night down the river which was very pretty and romantic pahahaha... specially with my dad thinking it was funny to wave like he had problems at everyone we passed.... ahhhh the Martins.
Side Note: The hotel we all stayed at was called the Drury Inn and the building use to be bank where my grand parents worked and first met, on the 5th floor we later found out from my grandpa! Cool huh?
Next day was my absolute fav! We went and ate at Lu Lu's Cafe. My mom and Ryan E were watching Man vs Food on the food network channel (don't know where I was) and witnessed the guy eating a GIGNATIC CINNAMON ROLL and eating a chicken fried steak with queso on it at a place called Lu Lu's in San Antonio. Sooo of course we had to check it out. O-M-G... heart attack waiting to happen! Ryan ordered the chicken fried steak and we all split a 3 pound cinnamon roll. Might I add we did NOT finish the whole thing between all of us.. but it was VERY good. After Lu Lu's and resting at the hotel for an hour (haha) we went to Gruene Texas! It was soooo nice to drive out into the country on a beautiful day with perfect weather! There was a wine tasting going on under a big oak tree, little shops in old timey buildings, it was just the cutest little town. We visited Gruene Hall which is known to be Texas oldest dance hall and everyone who is someone (big) in Country has played there. The floors felt like they were about to cave in! We then had lunch at the Gristmill, which is welllll... an old gristmill that they turned into a restraunt and it has 4 levels to it leading down the side of a hill to the river. It was the prettiest, coolest place I've ever eatin at! The Ryans and I got to talking and decided to take a trip up there and see soemone play at Gruene Hall sometime in December where it's cool outside and they have all there Christmas lights up. Anyways... that about sums up our trip we had that weekend and overall it was VERY nice to get out of town and see new environments and relax with the family. I also loved using my new camera and taking lots-n-lots of pictures. So, here are some of the pictures of what I talked about in this long entry =)
